In the past three years, MotoGP rider Cal Crutchlow has been busy moving around, riding for three different teams in that timespan. But the changes haven’t helped his results, and he’s admitting it now.
In an interview with MotoGP.com, Crutchlow said he saw growth with the manufacturers he rode with, but each time he switched teams (Yamah Tech3 to Ducati to LCR Honda), the timing was terrible.
” I was like the Fernando Alonso of MotoGP, I moved at the wrong time to every manufacturer,” he said. “When I left everything started to go good!”
That is indeed the truth. Tech3 had a fantastic year in 2015, and the Ducati factory squad made huge improvements as the team’s management picture changed. Crutchlow, meanwhile, struggled in his new slot at LCR Honda.
“I don’t regret any decisions I made, I made them for the correct reasons at the time,” Crutchlow said. “Sometimes you look back and think ‘Ah maybe this weekend would have been easier if I was riding something else’, but I have what I have and I have to do the best job I can with it. It’s nice to be in LCR for the second year, they’re working really closely with Honda and they’re working hard to do the best job they can.”
At least that’s more positive than the bitter remarks Crutchlow had when he struggled with the Ducati factory bike. He’s got nowhere to go but up at this point, having crashed out at Qatar in the first race of the year. A finish in the points this weekend in Argentina would be a strong indication he’s on the right track now aboard his Honda.
In Argentina, Crutchlow went down, got going again and eventually finished one lap down, out of the pounts. It would seem that bad luck is still dogging him….maybe next race.
