Denny Morrison has first race since big crash

Less than a year after a motorcycle crash that left him with a metal rod in his leg, Olympic speed skater Denny Morrison has had his first race.

Last May, Morrison was involved in a traffic smash-up, when he plowed into a Toyota Corolla with enough force to flip the car over. Remarkably, Morrison survived, although he required plenty of Six Million Dollar Man-style repair to his leg (along with injuries to his back, lung, liver and kidney, and a concussion).  But he made it back on ice by October, and last week, he was back racing.

Morrison’s results weren’t anywhere near the times that won him Olympic medal; CBC reports his time in the 1000-metre Canada  Cup event was good for fourth, but he ended up disqualified because he forgot to wear ankle guards. He was happy with his results anyway, especially in light of the injuries he’s returned from.
