Ryan Farquhar replaces Guy Martin at Tyco BMW

Back in January, we told you Guy Martin would miss this year’s Isle of Man TT. Now, his team has announced Ryan Farquhar as his replacement.

Martin had long been hinting at retirement, and decided to take this year away from the IOMTT to take place in a mountain bike race through the Rockies (maybe some Canadian readers will bump into him out there somewhere?).

His replacement might not have hair like comic book hero Wolverine (quite the opposite, it appears!) but he does have a solid fan base, and Tyco BMW is picking up a known winner with Farquhar’s signing. He took 2004’s Production 600 race, 2005’s TT Supersport race, and 2012’s Lightweight TT win. He’s also a legend in the Irish roadracing scene, with more wins than Joey Dunlop in the Irish National series. Along with those wins, he’s also racked up an impressive collection of podium finishes at the Isle of Man.

This year, Farquhar ended up with Tyco when he initially was only looking to buy a BMW from them, planning to campaign with his own team. Tyco had thought of only entering one racer (Ian Hutchinson), but after talking with Farquhar, they decided to work together. Farquhar will also pilot a Kawasaki ER6 in Supertwin races.
