Honda Africa Twin pricing announced for Canada

Honda has announced prices for two new adventure bikes in Canada, the Africa Twin and the VFR1200X CrossTourer.

For 2016, the Africa Twin starts at $13,999 for the model with the standard transmission. For the Rally paint scheme, that price rises to $14,299. The DCT version comes in at $14,999.

The VFR1200X CrossTourer is pricier, at $17,999 for the base model, and $18,999 for DCT.

How do those numbers stack up against the competition? Probably the closest Japanese competitor to the Africa Twin is the 1200cc Yamaha Super Tenere. Pricing for the Super Ten starts at $16,999, although you do get a larger engine for your money, putting about 15 hp more than the Honda. The only 1000cc Japanese adventure bike available in Canada is the Suzuki V-Strom 1000, which comes in at $12,399, although it’s a more street-going machine than the Africa Twin, comparing much better to the CrossTourer.

The Africa Twin compares much more closely to BMW’s GS lineup, but at 1000cc, it slots in between the F800 GS ($13,750) and R1200 GS ($19,400). You could also compare it to Triumph’s Tiger 800 XCx ($14,899) and Explorer XC ABS ($19,299), or KTM’s 1190 Adventure ($18,299), or the  Moto Guzzi Stelvio ($16,290).

The CrossTourer has plenty of competition in the streetgoing ADV ranks from Europe, as well as the already-mentioned V-Strom 1000. There’s the BMW S1000XR ($17,600), the Tiger Explorer ABS ($15,899), and the Ducati Multistrada 1200 ($18,995). The CrossTourer comes in roughly the same as the Beemer, pricier than the Tiger Explorer, and cheaper than the Multi.

  1. For you guys who think on the long term, be Wise in realising tha the seats that match the motorcycle color will get faded faster then the motorcycle paint. This is particularly true for the RED seat.

  2. Nice looking bike and at a reasonable price. High marks for Honda for getting it right. This is the first new Honda in a long time that I would consider buying.

  3. I believe that is very close to what I guessed at on a previous story many months ago. I would consider one for sure seeing that I am in the market for a new STeed.

    • It does not and probably will never come with this option but don`t fret , all you have to do is get some 17 inch rims and tires , the proper length spokes and laced them to the standard hubs or get a new pair of hubs, I let you figure out the odometer and speedometer calibration.. Then enjoy your maxi motard.
