World Superbike releases provisional calendar

World Superbike has released their provisional calendar for 2016, giving us a glimpse at what next year’s schedule should look like, roughly.

This year, both Monza and the German Lausitzring tracks are returning. Monza must pass a homologation test before confirming its appearance. This time around, WSB organizers aren’t even pretending, and didn’t include Moscow. That event was trouble-plagued from the start, and it’s doubtful anyone will miss it outside of Russia.

The Portimao round was also dropped.

As usual, there’s a gratuitously long mid-summer break. This should allow riders to take part in some other events, like endurance racing classics, but the gap between the second Italian round in July and the German round in September is likely to make some people forget there’s even a Superbike series running …

Reportedly, World Superbike is considering running two days of races — the first race Saturday, the second Sunday, instead of a single-day double-header. The Supersport class will not run at Laguna Seca, but Superstock 1000 runs at every weekend.

No events clash with the MotoGP schedule at this point.
