2016 Bonneville Thruxton

Whereas the previous Thruxton was basically a Bonneville with a few café-racer-inspired goodies bolted on, Triumph has taken the theme much further with the new Thruxton.

First, it gets a different variation of the 1200 cc liquid-cooled twin that powers the T120. Triumph has tagged it the “high-power Thruxton spec” engine, and although horsepower numbers are not available, it produces almost 83 lb-ft of torque, at 4,950 rpm, considerably higher than the T120 (and 62% higher than the outgoing Thruxton), indicating it is indeed in a higher state of tune.

It has a lighter crankshaft to allow it to spin up quicker, has a higher compression ratio (won’t know how much until the specs are available), a hotter cam, and a freer-flowing airbox. It also has three ride modes, as opposed to the T120’s two.

The Thruxton rolls on wide, 17-inch wheels and has a conventional, non-adjustable fork. The higher-spec Thruxton R uses fully adjustable suspension, with a Showa USD fork and Ohlins piggyback shocks. It also rolls on sportier Pirelli Diablo Rosso Cosra tires (Phantoms on the standard Thruxton), and uses radial monobloc Brembo front calipers.

Although pricing has not been released, you can expect both of these Thruxton models to cost considerably more than the current model.

  1. “Cost considerably more” eh? but still made in Thailand. But of course, they launch it in London. Premium brand, premium price, 3rd world production & manufacturing – suckers line up here. Maybe show more pics of Becks riding ’em.

    • Thailand is hardly the 3rd world and I haven’t read any carping and moaning about the quality of the bikes manufactured there. It’s arguable that Triumph is a “premium” brand and it doesn’t seem to me that their prices are stratospheric.

    • Very similar to the Ducati Classic bike of 10 or so years ago, but the gap is not as bad. I think they might get away with that, just.
