Guy Martin turns down Top Gear

Guy Martin may not be the fastest rider at the Isle of Man, but he's setting a lot of other speed records.

English roadracer Guy Martin has reportedly turned down an offer to be a host on BBC motoring show Top Gear.

Martin’s best known for his racing efforts at the Isle of Man TT, North West 200, and other street-based races in the UK and Ireland. However, he’s also worked as a TV host on his own show, titled Speed with Guy Martin.

Due to his huge fanbase both home and abroad, as well as his easy-going personality and mechanical expertise, he would have been a natural choice to work on Top Gear now that its three long-serving hosts Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond, and James May have departed. The rumours about such a move have swirled for months.

But Martin’s said no, according to an interview he did with a trucking magazine. While many would wonder why he’d turn down an opportunity to work on one of the most popular shows in the English-speaking world, it’s not that surprising. Martin seems to be more interested in doing what he wants to do, instead of what TV producers want him to do. If rumours are true, he’s evaluating his future in roadracing, and doesn’t seem to want to give up his job as a lorry (truck) mechanic, which gives him a lot of satisfaction.
