Update: CSC still working on plans to import Zongshen RX-3 adventure bike

They’re a bit behind their original schedule, but California Scooter Company  is still working on bringing their Zongshen RX3 adventure bike to Canada.

The initial plan for the 250 cc RX3 was to bring it to Canada in mid-winter or spring of 2015. However, as often happens to the smaller marques, that delivery plan was delayed by red tape. It’s also likely CSC’s initial Canadian distribution plan (direct to consumers, with no dealer network) raised a few eyebrows.

We reached out to CSC to see if they were still planning on that direct-to-consumer marketing plan, but they didn’t want to comment on that issue, saying “No details we can share yet on who we will be distributing them through in Canada.” They also replied they expected Canadian certification very soon.

The staff at CSC have been working hard to promote their new motorcycles, showing up at adventure rallies all over the US and promoting their bikes with extended tours, including a 1,700-mile run through Baja and a 5,000-mile run through the western US. They even added some decent aftermarket support, including clutch kits from Barnett and heated grips.

One of their staffers, Joe Berk, has gone so far as to write a book about his experiences bringing the Zongshen RX250 to market. You can find it here, if you’re curious about the trials and tribulations of bringing a Chinese motorcycle to market.

  1. Did some research and they are now Transport Canada approved and have been shipping them to Canada direct to the consumer.
