MotoGP riders perform last Michelin tire test

With the great switch to Michelin tires next season, MotoGP’s riders had their last test on the new rubber for the 2015 season.

The riders were supposed to run the new tires at the Czech GP in Brno, but scrapped that plan due to rain. Instead, they headed out yesterday at Aragon, testing four different fronts and three different rear tires.

Valentino Rossi, Marc Marquez,  Dani Pedrosa, Ducati Team’s Andrea Dovizioso, Aleix Espargaro, Stefan Bradl, Alvaro Bautista, Bradley Smith, Pol Espargaro, Scott Redding, Cal Crutchlow, Jack Miller, and Danilo Petrucci took part in the test. However, Jorge Lorenzo did not. Rossi had a minor off during the test, but was not seriously hurt.

“We brought stuff that we tested at Misano, so most of it we’ve already tested – only with one new option for the front, and a range of three different rear tyres, said Nicolas Goubert, Michelin Racing’s technical director. “We try to cover different conditions, and try to see what could be a good compromise between good performance and good consistency.”

Goubert says Michelin has basically decided on profiles for the tires, and now they’re just trying to make a decision on the compound for the rear tire; they’re testing different compounds to adjust for conditions and track layouts.
