After crashing out at Aragon, Marc Marquez is only blaming himself, but isn’t giving up.
Marquez was trying to catch Jorge Lorenzo on Lap 2 at the Spanish GP yesterday, when he crashed on Turn 12. That left Valentino Rossi and Dani Pedrosa battling for second (Pedrosa prevailed) and Lorenzo alone up front.
After the crash, his fifth crack-up of the season, Marquez apologized to his fans and team, saying he’d had a good pace all weekend, up to the crash.
“I made a mistake and lost the front,” Marquez said.
After the crash, Marquez is still in third, with 184 points. That’s enough of a lead over Andrea Iannone that he should be able to hold his spot (Iannone has 172 points) as long as he doesn’t crash again. But with only four races left, Marquez’s hopes of a three-peat are obviously gone. Both Lorenzo and Rossi would have to have horrific luck from here on to give Marquez a chance. But that doesn’t mean the 22-year-old racer is giving up.
“When a season is not going well for you, then nothing goes your way, and it seems that this season we are finding things hard,” Marquez said, “There are still four races to go and we will try to be at the front and fight to the end.”
