Andrea Iannone injures shoulder

Ducati factory rider Andrea Iannone has injured his shoulder in training.

The MotoGP rider dislocated his left shoulder after taking a tumble in training earlier this week. It’s the same shoulder he injured during a test run at Mugello this spring. His shoulder was put back together Thursday, and he will race at Aragon, but he’s not in top shape.

Iannone will undergo surgery after the Spanish race. The injury couldn’t have come at a worst time; Crazy Joe is currently fourth in the points standings, with 159 points to fifth-place Bradley Smith’s 138. Marc Marquez is in third with 184. Catching Marquez might have been possible if Iannone was in top form and the Repsol rider was hit by a string of bad luck, although it wasn’t likely. But now Iannone also faces a challenge for fourth from an increasingly more successful Smith, and an injury isn’t going to improve that situation.
