For the first time in its history, an all-female team is headed to BMW’s GS Trophy competition.
The GS Trophy is BMW’s biennial competition showcasing their adventure bike lineup, pitting teams against each other in both extended daily rides and special challenges. It’s been hosted in various countries around the world, most recently in Canada.
In 2016, the GS Trophy will run in Thailand, and there will be an all-female team for the first time ever. Earlier this month, BMW invited 10 female riders to compete for spots in this team in a showdown at the Country Trax Off-road Riding Academy in South Africa, including one Canadian, Caroline Stevenson.
Alas, Stevenson didn’t make the cut — only three riders were selected to the team, and she finished seventh in the competition. First, second and third went to Stephanie Bouisson (France), Amy Harburg (Australia) and Morag Campbell (South Africa) respectively. They’ll be riding in the International GS Trophy on February 28 to March 5, 2016, adding another interesting dimension to what’s already one of the world’s top off-road competitions.
