Lorenzo energized to battle hard at Misano

After slipping back to the second slot in the standings, Jorge Lorenzo is planning to battle hard at this weekend’s MotoGP round at Misano.

After the all-Italian podium at Silverstone, Valentino Rossi is once more atop the standings, and going into this weekend, that’s especially good news for the Doctor. Rossi has always performed well at his home track, and if he performs well this weekend, he could tighten his grip on the championship even further.

But Lorenzo also does well at Misano. He’s made the podium there every year since 2008, and won three times in that span.

“I know Valentino will feel good because it‘s his home Grand Prix, but in the past I‘ve always been quite fast there and achieved several victories so let‘s see what happens,” Lorenzo said. “My teammate has a gap of 12 points in the championship but there are still six races left so there are still enough points up for grabs. I‘m going to push to the maximum in every race starting in Misano.”

Last year, the Misano race was almost a turning point in the season; while Marquez had racked up enough points early on to take the win for the year, he crashed at Misano, and both Rossi (first) and Lorenzo (second) put up performances that were harbingers of their success this year. If Lorenzo can finish 2015 as consistently as 2014, he won’t have to worry about anyone passing him from lower in the ranks. That leaves him with the sole problem of unseating Rossi from atop the standings, a problem that Lorenzo seems determined to solve.
