The world’s largest motorcycle museum is going to undergo a huge expansion, allowing them to display even more motorcycles.
The Barber Vintage Motorsports Museum of Birmingham, Alabama, announced yesterday that they are planning an 84,650 sq. ft. expansion to their museum building, which is already an impressive 144,000 sq. ft.
The expansion is part of a series of general upgrades to the Barber facility, including garages for the track. When the museum expansion is completed (scheduled to be done by fall of 2016), they’ll be able to exhibit even more motorcycles. The museum has 1,398 bikes — the world’s largest collection — but many of them are hidden from the public, due to lack of exhibit space. The upgrade will allow them to show off even more machines; when CMG visited Barber in 2013, about half the collection was in storage.
The museum will remain open to the public during the construction.
