With last weekend’s wins at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park, Jordan Szoke has moved into the lead in the BMW Motorrad Race Trophy.
When BMW pulled out of World Superbike racing in 2013, they announced a different roadracing sponsorship plan. Instead of doling out money to a WSB team, they introduced the BMW Motorrad Race Trophy, a series that BMW-riding privateers worldwide could enter. These riders’ points in their respective series are then stacked against each other.
It turns out Szoke’s undefeated season means the Canadian privateer is now atop the Race Trophy standings, with 341.67 points. His next closest competition is Markus Reiterberger, with 299.52 points in the German IDM SBK series, with 299.52 points. But, since that series is over, Reiterberger can’t catch Szoke.
Third-place Roland Resch has 292.36 points, but only has one race weekend left in the Austrian AARR SBK series, so it’ll be tough for him to catch Szoke.
If Szoke wins the Race Trophy? It’ll not only be a great way to cap off his perfect season, but also put a big pile of cash in his pocket. The winner takes home a 20,000 Euro prize.

Well, here’s hoping for Jordan. I don’t know how much a CSBK pro, even the champion, makes for that gig. I’m guessing it’s probably not really all that much, so I’m sure the €20,000 will be very welcome. Kudos to Jordan on yet another championship, btw.
