CSBK – Round Five – Atlantic Motorsport Park

For Jordan Szoke, it was a double record-setting weekend at Shubenacadie, and one more step towards securing his 2015 championship.

Szoke started on pole yesterday, but Jodi Christie (Honda CBR1000RR) led the first nine laps, and then Kenny Riedmann (Kawasaki ZX10 RR) pulled into the lead. But on Lap 12, Szoke got his BMW S1000 RR out in front and stayed there, winning by 4.662 seconds. Riedmann was second, and Christie finished third.

The result in the standings means Szoke now has a 91-point lead in first place, with 275 points. Riedmann has moved into second, with 184 points, and defending champ Christie is now third, with 182 points. Riedmann managed to take the Pro Sport Bike crown away from Christie last year, and this year, he’s pushing him down the standings in Pro Superbike as well.

At this point, there’s only one weekend left — the doubleheader at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park (cough, Mosport, cough). Mathematically, either Christie or Riedmann could still beat Szoke, but they’d have to win Superpole, take first place in the race and probably lead the most laps as well. There are 108 possible points up for grabs, so if Szoke earns even 20 points at the doubleheader, he’ll be the champion yet again.

Not only was this Szoke’s unprecedented 50th win in CSBK racing, it was also his seventh Pro Superbike win at Atlantic Motorsport Park, which is another CSBK record.

Trevor Daley, who’s been racing with a broken hand after crashing before the season opener, finished fifth, Michael Leon sixth. Tomas Casas was in seventh, but had to duel with Sebastien Tremblay (eighth) and Stacey Nesbitt (ninth) to earn that spot. He’d been in fifth before running his Yamaha R6 off-track. Nesbitt and Casas are now tied in points, seventh in the standings.

Ron Munroe was ninth in Pro Superbike, and Reiner Griese was tenth.

It was a good weekend for Riedmann in Pro Sport Bike. He rode his Triumph 675 to the win, beating Christie (Honda CBR600 RR) once again in both the race and the standings. Riedmann now leads the standings with 239 points to Christie’s 230. Darren James (Yamaha R6) finished third and is still third in the standings with 166 points.

Yamahas also accounted for fourth (Will Hornblower) and fifth (Tomas Casas) slots.
