Italian magazine Motociclismo is reporting Niccolò Canepa is facing criminal charges after an on-track incident at Mugello that happened two years ago.
The incident, which occured in an amateur race at the Italian track, was captured on CCTV. You can see it below. In the video, Canepa appears to reach over and hit another rider’s brake lever, causing a crash. It certainly looks ugly, and we can’t imagine the other rider (David Cappato) was very happy.
There’s no word on what sparked the incident.
Supposedly, Canepa will face a judge on Sept. 30 on a charge of assault and battery over the incident. If you think the wheels of justice are grinding slowly, consider this: According to Motociclismo’s article, the crash actually occured all the way back in 2013. It’s taken two years to get to this point, raising questions about why things have taken so long.
