Today, the third Monday in June, is 2015’s Ride to Work Day.
Andy Goldfine, founder of Ride to Work Day (and Aerostich, as well), set the event up 24 years ago to demonstrate the practicality of motorcycles as a means of transportation, instead of just a weekend toy. The people behind the event hope to prove motorcycles are a great way to get from A to B, avoiding many of the pitfalls of modern traffic patterns along the way. As the AMA’s press release says:
“A 2011 study in Brussels by Transport & Mobility Leuven concluded that if 10 percent of cars on the roads of Belgium were replaced with motorcycles, exhaust emissions would fall 6 percent and traffic congestion would be reduced by 40 percent.”
Those benefits all sound pretty good to us!
Goldfine’s doing his part; he hopes to triple the number of riders who commute to work. If you don’t ride to work already, today’s a good chance for you to start, too. Find out more details at Ridetowork.org.
Dang, got to work & read this. I thought it was still drive your minivan to work day.
Always, always! check CMG before you leave for work. Then, at work, during the day. And after work.
