Report: Toronto police officer struck by motorcyclist

The Toronto Star is reporting a Toronto police officer was injured after he was struck by a motorcyclist on Saturday evening.

There aren’t many details on the collision or the officer’s injuries, but it appears the police officer was on foot around 6 PM when he noticed two motorcyclists apparently speeding. The Star’s article says the officer tried to stop the riders, but was struck and knocked over. The officer was taken to hospital, where he was treated for minor injuries.

Following the incident, police are looking for a black 2007 Honda CBR600RR with a damaged bodywork on the left side, and a missing left mirror.

  1. Cops are trained to handle most situations they may find themselves in. I can guarantee you that jumping in front of vehicular traffic isn’t one of them. An inept lawyer would have a field day winning this one, and in the meantime some widow and her children would have to carry on without a thoughtless husband and father.

  2. I agree, jumping out in the road to stop drivers/riders seems like a very foolhardy thing to do, and I’m surprised it’s taken this long for one of them to be hit.

  3. This does not surprise me at all. I feel bad for the injured police officer but the method of jumping out from behind a tree or whatever is a recipe for disaster. This sort of police confrontation is very dangerous as this same sort of scenario has happened to me not a few kilometres from this very spot.
In a Toronto police crack down on illegal left turns on Windermere last year, an officer would hid behind a pole and jump out in the the middle of the road to stop the vehicle. This works ok for cars as they excellerate slower and are easier to see and predict the acceleration velocity. So when I did my left turn and the light in the upcoming intersection was green, I gave it gas. There is no law against acceleration so in two seconds I was doing 50 km and then the cop jumped right in front of me. I threw the bike on an extreme left bank and missed the cop by inches. I have been riding 33 years. A new rider would have hit the cop or maybe be startled and accelerated.
Read this Toronto Police Service. Do not jump out in front of motorcycles.
When was the last motorcyclist to kill a car driver?
What vehicles clog up our roads?
I’m not asking for a carte Blanche for speeding. Just understand us better.

    Thank you
