The Isle of Man TT’s electric race just got much more interesting, with news that Guy Martin is now racing for Victory Motorcycles in TT Zero competition.
Originally, the plan was for Martin’s Tycho Racing teammate William Dunlop to pilot the Victory in its first IOMTT appearance. However, Dunlop had a crack-up in Saturday’s Superstock practice session, leaving him with a broken rib and lots of bruising. As a result, he won’t be racing this week.
In the wake of Dunlop’s injury, Martin will be filling in on the Victory electric bike. He quickly impressed on his first session on the bike, setting a 104.56 mph lap and reaching 147.8 mph in the Sulby speed trap. Reportedly, Martin was left almost speechless after his first practice session, saying “I couldn’t be more impressed … It was mega. So quiet and really fast.”
Lee ‘General Lee’ Johnston also rode the Victory, yesterday, laying down a 103.94mph lap and hitting the Sulby trap at 157.9mph, thanks to using Martin’s slipstream.
