Edmonton police lay charges in hit-and-run motorcycle fatality

Edmonton police have charged a driver in a fatal hit-and-run that left a motorcyclist dead almost two weeks ago.

On May 11, an Infiniti making a left-hand turn at an intersection struck a motorcycle carrying a male rider and female pillion. The rider suffered non-threatening injuries; the female passenger died. Both wore helmets.

The motorcyclists had a green light at the time of the crash, witnesses said. Following the crash, the driver fled the scene and was arrested later in west Edmonton.

Now, police have charged 60-year-old David Gershon Bookhalter, 60, with failure to stop at the scene of an accident knowing bodily harm was caused, and failure to stop at the scene of an accident knowing death was caused. The Edmonton police Major Collision Investigation Unit is still investigating the crash. Police did not explain the delay between the arrest and the laying of charges.
