Racing roundup: World Endurance, MotoAmerica results

MotoGP and World Superbike were the big shows on the weekend, but there was plenty of other high-level roadracing going on, including the World Endurance Championship and MotoAmerica.

MotoAmerica’s weekend at Road Atlanta saw plenty of rain, but the races went on, with great results for Yamaha. Clearly, whatever Yamaha is doing in MotoAmerica is working, as their riders swept all the Superstock, Supersport and Superbike races.

The racing saw Joe Roberts (Yamaha R6) take Race 1 and 2 in Superstock 600. Joshua Day took Race 1 and Eric Gagne took Race 2 in Superstock 1000, both on Yamaha R1s. Cameron Beaubier also took an R1 to victory in Superbike Races 1 and 2. Josh Herrin (Yamaha R6) took SuperSport Race 1 and Garret Gerloff took (Yamaha R6) took Supersport Race 2 (the riders switched the 1-2 positions in each race, respectively).

Canadian Ben Young (Yamaha R6) ended up with an 8th and 7th at the event, leaving him in fifth overall in Supersport points. He’s still with the Fogi team, but also under the auspices of Roadrace Factory this year, which could go a long way towards developing his career.

Following the race, Roadracing World reports, Beaubier headed for arm-pump treatment in California. He’s expected to be patched up and ready for the next MotoAmerica weekend in Virginia on May 15-17.

On the international scene, the 2015 FIM World Endurance championship kicked off on the weekend, with the 24 Hours of Le Mans race. The winners? The Suzuki Endurance Racing team of Vincent Philippe, Anthony Delhalle and Etienne Masson. The team nearly had to pack it in when Delhalle slid off at high speed early in the race, but five hours in they took the lead and never looked back, beating second-place SRC Kawasaki by seven laps.
