MotoGP – Redbull Grand Prix of the Americas – Race Result

US MotoGP @ COTA

The US MotoGP grand Prix is over, with the standing world champion Marc Marquez returning to the kind of dominating performance for which he has become famous.  Leading from lap 5 to the end, the Honda factory rider controlled events from the front, while Ducati continues its renaissance as Andrea Dovizioso brought home second place ahead of Yamaha’s Valentino Rossi.

The Austin, Texas Circuit of The Americas was wet throughout the morning, causing some excitement as earlier races in the lower classes dealt with grip issues, but by the time the MotoGP event began it was a dry race.

In fourth place was Rossi’s factory Yamaha teammate Jorge Lorenzo, who snatched the position away from the other factory Ducati of Andrea Iannone near the end.  The Yamaha satellite team Tech 3 managed to round out the top six with Bradley Smith.

Today erased many doubts regarding the potential of Valentino Rossi as the current MotoGP champion contender, as he continues to lead the points standings.  It also confirms that storied Italian manufacturer Ducati has turned a corner, with strong strong performances in race 1 and winning race 2 of the World Superbike championship earlier today, and proving beyond any doubt that the brands’ GP15 MotoGP machine is a match for both the Honda and Yamaha.
