KTM bringing a Freeride to North America

KTM has added the Freeride 250 R to their North American website, but there is still no sign of the 350 cc or electric versions.

KTM has been teasing us with the Freeride lineup for years now; other markets get the 350 cc version (a user-friendly dual sport bike with less emphasis on high-speed madness than the rest of their lineup) and the electric versions (a battery-powered dual sport and supermoto for eco-friendly hoons). But in true KTM form, those bikes haven’t made it here yet.

What of the 250 R? It appears to be a properly fun machine in its own right, but alas, it is not street-legal. It’s powered by a 249 cc two-stroke motor, which makes it a rarity in today’s modern world of emissions regulations. You can find out more details about this dirt bike here, and if you’re waiting for the other Freeride machines to make it here – well, keep waiting.

  1. This could be a good base for their small displacement adventure bike , they could save on R&D and tooling. ( yes I badly want KTM to make a smaller adventurer . ) Of course I`m not the first one who came out with the idea but I support it.

  2. Interesting new category of motorcycle. The trail/trials bike. You won’t be wrong, no matter which way you spell it. I expect it’ll be too expensive to be an entry level trail bike, and not specialized enough to be a proper trials bike. But probably ideal for the new class of Extreme/Hard Enduros popping up everywhere.
