This weekend: Showdown in Misano

The MotoGP circus descends on Italy this weekend, with high-speed mayhem visiting the Misano circuit and Honda’s Marc Marquez looking like he’ll break Mick Doohan’s record of 12 wins in one season.

While Marquez has built up a huge lead (288 points to second-place teammate Dani Pedrosa’s 199), his competition is always looking for ways to make up some of the distance between them.

Yamaha’s Jorge Lorenzo has struggled to find consistency at times this year, and he only has 157 points – good for fourth place. But he’s an expert at Misano. Since the track was added to the schedule back in 2007, he’s made the podium every time he’s raced there. He’s won there the last three years in MotoGP, placed second the three years before that, and won as well in 2007, when he was in the 250 class.

“Misano could definitely be the place to aim for the win, but I don’t want to obsess about it. I won’t do anything crazy, I’ll just try to do my best and show our best performance,” Lorenzo said.

“If I can’t win, another podium would be nice. I think we’re at the best level we’ve been this year and we’re doing a fantastic job with the team. The bike works well and, to me, Misano is a really lovely track because of its quick lay-out and plenty of fast corners.”
