Lowes, Laverty looking forward to this weekend

Alex Lowes made good use of his Donington experience in BSB to grab third place in the first place.

It’s been a long time since Laguna Seca, says Eugene Laverty.

The World Superbike racer made the comment as he looked forward to this weekend’s showdown at Jerez. The last race was two months ago in California, and now there’s only three weekends left.

The Suzuki team has been working hard during that time off, Laverty says, and he’s looking forward to this weekend’s challenge.

“Jerez can’t come soon enough following an incredibly long break,” he said. “My Voltcom Crescent Suzuki team has continued to work hard during the summer break so I expect to find significant improvements during the final part of the season.”

““I’m really looking forward to getting back to racing after the summer break and I’ve spent the past few weeks training and focusing on my fitness since returning from Laguna,” said teammate Alex Lowes. “I’m aiming to get straight down to work with the Voltcom Crescent Suzuki on Friday so we can finish the season strongly.”

They’ll have plenty of work ahead of them. Laverty’s in ninth overall right now, with 134 points. Lowes is in 11th, with 119. It’s possible they could work their way up the standings a bit, but there’s plenty of distance between them and the top three (Tom Sykes, 325 points; Sylvain Guintoli, 281 points; Jonathan Rea, 261 points). They don’t have enough time left to make up the points needed to move up that far. However, they might be able to climb up a few spots, if everything goes well.
