Now on Dirtpunk: Buy Ed March’s Malaysia to UK DVD

Ed March is a madman. But that’s OK by us, and you can support further insane endevours by buying his DVD detailing his Malaysia to UK adventure, which is finally available on Dirtpunk.

Some background: March is known in the adventure riding world as “that crazy guy who rides everywhere on a Honda C90.” His film gives the story of a 2011 trip that saw him ride through 17 countries in eight months aboard his trusty step-through.

I asked March for a few more details on the film and his adventures – see his email reply below.

In 2011 I posted my 90cc honda C90 to the other side of the world because I wanted to explore the world (I had never left Europe at this point). I chose my trusty little C90 because she’s very easy to fix, very cheap to run and I thought life would be a lot easier for me if I didn’t look like a rich Westerner.

The trip ended up being 14,500 miles over 8 months and cost £7,500 (£2,500 less than the BMW1200GSA that people kept telling me I should ride instead 😉

I rode through Malaysia, Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam, Nepal, India, Dubai, Iran, Turkey, Bulgaria, Romania, Hungary, Austria, Germany, Belgium, France and then home to the UK.

The trip was an absolute blast and incredibly easy. I didn’t get asked for any bribes (mainly due to my bike looking worthless I think), I stayed in a hotel every night until Europe (hotels are £5 per night in Asia…and in Nepal 70p a night!) and everyday I’d just wake up, start the bike and ride a bit closer to home.

In Thailand a mechanic changed the engine oil for brake fluid by accident and the engine seized after 50 miles. But she kept going till I reached the next Honda garage where I got a full engine rebuild for £28 and it only took them 2 and a half hours)

My favourite country: Iran; it’s a the friendliest place I’ve ever been and scenery is amazing.

Craziest moment: I bribed the Cambodia army and they let me ride around one handed whilst firing belt fed machine guns with live bullets…. and throw hand grenades.

Scariest moment: the only scary bit was in India when a petrol tanker flipped over in front of me and smashed through some power lines.

Would I do it again? In a heartbeat!

Next trip: Alaska to Argentina with my girlfriend on 2 separate C90’s. We set off July 27th 2014

So there you have it. If you’re still not convinced, check out the clip below … or check this out. Or this.
