Famed motorcycle designer Massimo Tamburini has died at age 70.

Fans of high-end European sportbikes will recognize Tamburini’s work, even if they don’t recognize his name. Tamburini worked for Ducati and MV Agusta, and helped found Bimota. He also spent time working in MotoGP.

While Tamburini worked on many famous motorcycle designs, some of his most memorable bikes include the Ducati 916 and, more recently, MV Agusta’s F4 and F3. His work was notable enough to make it all the way to the Guggenheim Museum’s 1998 “Art of the Motorcycle” exhibit.

He passed away on Saturday after battling lung cancer for some time.
