New rider safety training organization in GTA

Traffic cones are cheap, and you can easily use them to set up your own practice course.

Remember those guys at Sheridan College, who taught so many people how to ride? Well, they’re back. Sort of.

For years, Sheridan College was a major player if you wanted rider training in the GTA, but they shut down their 34-year-old training program in 2013. But, a bunch of those instructors have decided they want to keep schooling two-wheeled newcomers, so they’ve set up their own training program, called Motorcycle Training  Organization of Halton-Peel (or MTOhp, for short).

Rob Copeland, a Canada Safety Council-certified Chief Instructor, is the new program’s big boss; the instructors are still certified under the Canada Safety Council’s “Gearing Up” program’s standards. Classroom instruction will take place at Sheridan College’s Brampton or Oakville campuses, and training riders will get their seat time at Mississauga’s Region of Peel building on Hurontario St.

Want more details? Check out MTOhp’s website here, or call them at 289-654-0501. You can also email them at info@mtohp. Bookings can only be made through the website. Classes get underway on April 3.
