Kawasaki has unveiled an upgraded version of their popular KLR650 adventure bike at the New York International Motorcycle Show.

The redesigned seat should make it easier for riders with less inseam.

Dubbed the “New Edition,” this KLR looks pretty similar to the old one, and won’t replace it – it’ll run side-by-side in the lineup. Details are sketchy as to what’s actually changed on the machine, but it seems there’s a new seat and upgraded suspension.

Motorcycle.com is reporting the seat is narrower at the front, and lower, and there’s firmer springs and rebound damping in both front and rear suspension. Brakes remain the same, as does weight.

In the US, these upgrades will only cost an extra $100. Team Green (the bike is actually available in green, white and grey/black) is charging $6,499 for the machine in the US. We don’t know yet if it’s coming to Canada, or what the MSRP will be if it does.

  1. I’d be more excited if Kawasaki were to introduce the W800 to the North American market … a (very) slghtly up-graded KLR to sell alongside the regular model … was this even neccessary?

    • Let’s see; “a (very) slightly up-graded [model] to sell alongside [everything else.]”

Why not? That business model has worked for Hardley-Ableson for years.

  2. The only downside of fuel injection is that for the few owners who ride this to Outer Mongolia (or Sudbury), they may rather have a carb so they can more easily fix it if they get a tank of bad gas in the middle of nowhere.

  3. New valving in the suspension a seat reshape and bold new graphics does not make a new bike. Loose 50 lbs and add fuel injection and perhaps my interest will rise.
