At EICMA, Triumph said they were working on a new 250 cc sportbike. Now, it’s been spotted in the wild.

German mag Motorrad has published photos of the new 250 undergoing street testing. Supposedly, the bike will be here in a year and a half, and it’ll be built in India. That’s a savvy move on Triumph’s part, as it would allow them to bypass heavy import taxes when selling the bike in India, one of the world’s hottest motorcycle markets.

Motorrad seems to think the machine will be powered by a liquid-cooled single that makes around 25 hp, but that’s not official information.

  1. I wonder how this will affect Royal Enfield, now that the “traditional” Triumph marque is coming back to India. On the one hand, the bike will have the traditional Triumph name but on the other hand it will have almost as much power as the R.E. 500, with much less weight, (probably) better reliability and very modern styling.
