The Sic Supermoto Day, an event commemorating fallen MotoGP racer Marco Simoncelli, has ended in tragedy after collision during practice on Saturday.

Doriano Romboni, who won six MotoGP races in the 125 and 250 classes in the 1990s and finished third in the Dutch TT in 1997, died after he was struck by another rider. He was 45 years old.

Romboni was stuck during the event’s second practice, and died after being airlifted to hospital.

Marco Simoncelli died in a crash at the Sepang circuit in 2011. This was the second Sic Supermoto day honouring his memory. The event was canceled after the fatal crash.
