Motorsports Canada has announced they are bringing CCM’s new GP450 adventure bike to Canada.

While the motor is smaller than much of the big-bore adventure bike competition, the GP450 is packed with plenty of other technology to keep users happy.

This is CCM’s first venture into the foreign market outside Europe with this new machine. It’s a high-spec on-and-off road machine, with a bonded aluminum chassis (not welded). It’s powered by the liquid-cooled 450 cc single that BMW brought to market a few years ago to use in their enduro bikes. Those machines have been discontinued, so now CCM has access to the made-in-Taiwan motor.

The bike has a five-speed transmission, and has been re-tuned to make 40 hp at 7000 rpm, 32 ft-lbs of torque at 6500 rpm. The lower state of tune means maintenance intervals have been lengthened from the original BMW specs. It has a four-valve head, and the valves are titanium. Maximum speed is 145 kph, so it should be able to pull highway speed all day.

The machine has a lot of rally-style bodywork, and supposedly, CCM is actually planning a Dakar entry (they’ve won the manufacturers’ trophy in the past). But despite the added weight of a fairing and windshield, the GP450 has a dry weight of only 130 kg.

Seat height is 890 mm, wheelbase is 1510 mm, fuel capacity is around 17 litres, and there’s a 320 mm disc brake up front and 240 mm disc brake in rear. Front and rear brakes have Brembo calipers.

The 47 mm USD forks have is adjustable for damping and compression. The rear shock is adjustable for preload, damping and compression.

CCM also has a wide range of accessories available for the bike, including hard and soft luggage, an action camera mount, electronically adjustable suspension, tall seats, and additional lighting.

The GP450 is supposed to have a $12,000 MSRP when it arrives in Canada in the first quarter of 2014.

  1. I saw the bike in Edmonton too and was very impressed but that is the last I’ve heard… Is it comming or has the deal fallen through?

    • I saw it in Edmonton at the motorcycle show and it was breathtaking. I honestly couldn’t find a flaw except that front fender, maybe its to appeal to the BMW people. As for the Titanium valves, I have them in my WR50R and the first time you have to look at the head is 22,000 km for the first valve adjustment, so you are wrong about that Jim Hannah. I hope it sells well, because its exactly what we need here, and it is a steal for that price once you see it.

  2. “damping and compression”?
That doesn’t make much sense to me. Did you mean compression damping only, compression damping and spring preload or perhaps compression and rebound damping?

The price is a bit high but at least in includes a real skid plate and hand guards that we normally have to add to dual sport bikes for $200 and it looks like it has real foot pegs as well for another $100 saved.

it will need a high front fender for muddy conditions so I hope the fairing is not in the way of that.

I sure hope it works well because it seems to have all the design features I’ve been looking for. I look forward to a test report.
