The Canadian Superbike championship kicks off at Shannonville this weekend, with Jordan Szoke aiming to defend his #1 plate from last season.

Szoke is running a BMW S1000RR again this season; Alex Welsh (aboard a Suzuki GSX-R 1000) and Jodi Christie (aboard a Honda CBR1000RR) are both expected to give him a run for his money, though. Christie’s won the pro sportbike class the last two years, and seriously challenged the superbike leaders at times when running his 600 in their class.

As for the spec series – last year’s CBR250 champ, Stacey Nesbitt, isn’t running in the national series this season, but Steve Crevier is supposed to return to Harley-Davidson’s XR1200 Cup.

CSBK announced recently that Pirelli is going to be their control tire again this year (they’ll be using the Diablo Supercorsa V2 DOT and Diablo Superbike V2 tires).

Sunoco 260 GTX gas will be the spec fuel of the pro superbike series (other classes can run pump gas, if they want), at $4.50 a litre. There was some unhappiness over spec fuel rule enforcement towards the end of last season; hopefully that’s not a problem this season.

The action starts on Friday at Shannonville, and runs through Sunday. You can find more details (directions, etc.) here.
