We told you not long ago that KTM sounded like they were moving away from electric vehicles. Maybe it was just a clever feint, because they’ve just unveiled an electric scooter at the Tokyo Motor Show.
You can recharge the E-SPEED scooter’s 4.36 KWh lithium-ion battery in two hours from a standard household plug. The scooter weighs 140 kg; the battery casing is a central, load-bearing chassis component, and front suspension is a single-sided fork from WP.
LED headlights preserve battery power, the 220 mm ABS disc brakes feature regenerative technology, and the wheels are 14-inch alloy units. Tricky, tricky, tricky!
In a bit of a reversal from his earlier comments, KTM CEO Stefan Pierer said “Vehicles like the E-SPEED and Freeride-E will help powered two-wheelers win back more acceptance in society. Not just because of their environmental credits, but because they are easy to use, quick, and simply great fun.”
