Can Quinn Cody improve Husqvarna’s fortunes at Dakar?

Four-time Baja 1000 winner Quinn Cody has signed with Husqvarna to race for them at Dakar. There’s only one catch …

Cody managed to break his femur at the Baja 1000 this year, leaving him unable to race the 2013 event with the Husqvarna Rallye Team put together by Speedbrain. He still plans to race for Husky in 2013, though, starting with the FIM Cross-Country Rallies World Championship.

“We’re hopeful that I’ll be ready to go by the start of the world championship series in April,” says Cody. “Our plan is to do the whole FIM Rally series so I’ll be able to learn the bike and learn navigation for a year before the Dakar in 2014.”

The move comes at a time when more Baja and Dakar racers are expressing interest in running both series. Dakar hero Marc Coma nabbed a podium finish in the Baja 500 this year, and longtime Baja 1000 racer and team mastermind Johnny Campbell is planning to run Dakar again. While the two races are quite different – one’s a two-week rally raid, the other’s a day-long sprint – it’s interesting to see how the greatest riders in each event stack up against each other.
