N.B. names Highway of Heroes

The Canadian Army Veterans Motorcycle Unit’s New Brunswick branch (2CAV) has seen some lobbying success.

Last summer, we told you 2CAV was trying to get the New Brunswick provincial legislature to designate a section of the province’s highway as the Highway of Heroes, similar to other provinces.

This week, the province’s MLAs voted unanimously to go along with the proposal, which was introduced into the legislature by Fredericton-Silverwood MLA Brian McDonald. They’re going to designate the province’s section of the Trans Canada Highway (Route 2) as the Highway of Heroes, honouring Canadian veterans, soldiers, police officers, and firefighters. The official name of the highway will stay as Route 2, and maps will be unchanged.

The province already had a section of highway between Moncton and Shediac designated as the Veterans Memorial Highway. Ontario, B.C., and Saksatchewan already have stretches of road they’ve designated as a Highway of Heroes.
