Ducati smashes sales record

Ducati's selling more motorcycles than ever these days; their 1199 Panigale superbike probably has something to do with it.

May was Ducati North America’s best month ever, with a huge jump in sales from last year.

Ducati North America sold 1,782 motorcycles in May, 2012. That’s up 49 per cent from May, 2011, and it also broke the company’s all time monthly sales record, set back in June of 2008.

That month saw Ducati sell 1,398 motorcycles; Ducati beat that mark by 388 bikes this May, which works out to a 28 per cent increase in sales over the previous record.

What’s behind the increase in sales? Well, Ducati’s new 1199 Panigale superbike and 848 Streetfighter are surely responsible for some of that jump, and the Diavel and Multistrada models continue to sell well.

Ducati’s news is further evidence of recent industry trends that see high-end motorcycles maintaining their market share or even experiencing growth, while mid- to low-end models are still trying to rebuild sales numbers.
