Monty Robinson found guilty

RCMP corporal Benjamin “Monty” Robinson has been found guilty of obstruction of justice.

Justice Janice Dillon handed her verdict down on Friday, saying Robinson’s actions after colliding with 21-year-old motorcyclist Orion Hutchinson were an attempt to throw off investigating police, the Vancouver Sun reports.

After colliding with Hutchinson, Robinson left his license with a bystander at the accident, walked his children home, then returned to the scene after consuming vodka. Crown prosecutors said this was a planned attempt to cover the fact he’d been driving impaired. Robinson’s defence team said he was an alcoholic, and this was a natural reaction to the pressure of the situation.

Dillon didn’t buy that story, though, saying his testimony was not credible.

“This was not a simple error of judgment, mistake or inadvertence,” she said in her judgment from the bench, the Canadian Press reports. “Robinson’s act of drinking the vodka was, I conclude, wilfully designed to set up the defence that he had learned during his police training.”

Now, the RCMP is trying to dismiss Robinson from the force, The Province reports. He’s been on paid suspension since October 28, 2008, three days after the fatal collision.

  2. This example of our finest, was the lead officer involved in the Vancouver Airport tasering death of Robert Dzikanski (sp?) which occured approximatelt one year after the motorcycle incident.  

  4. First: Make this guy pay back all his ill gotten wages. 
    Next : Strip him of all his benefits and pension.
    Lastly: Toss him in jail to fend for himself.
    When he gets his just rewards may he rot in Hell.
