Ducati has released specifications and photos of their new GP12 MotoGP machine. Here’s an overview of the machine.
The 1000cc 90-degree V4 desmodronic motor supposedly puts out around 230 hp. The motor has been rotated backwards in the frame, allowing the engineers to monkey with the bike’s center of balance.
The motor powers the rear wheel through a Ducati Seamless Transmission; throttle control is managed through the EVO TCF (Throttle Control & Feedback) system, and the engine is fed through Indirect Magneti Marelli electronic injection, with four throttle bodies with injectors above butterfly valves. Magneti Marelli also supplies the ignition. The exhaust is by Termignoni.
The frame is an aluminum twin-spar unit; it seems last year’s disastrous experiment with carbon fiber is over, at least for now. The new chassis is said to have been built by FTR (although designed by Ducati Corse).
The bike rides on 16.5 inch Bridgestone tires, front and rear, and suspension is an Öhlins inverted 48mm fork up front, and an Öhlins shock absorber, adjustable for preload, compression and rebound damping, in back. Brakes are from Brembo, with two 320mm carbon discs in front with four-piston calipers, and a single stainless steel rear disc with two-piston caliper
The bike weighs 346 lbs dry, and top speed is supposed to be over 330 kph.
