If you’re around Leduc, Alberta, and you’re bored, you can always drop in to George Lake and take in some motorcycle racing.

That’s right – motorcycle racing. You see, the roadracing tracks across the country may still be covered in snow, but that doesn’t stop the good folks of the Fairview Motocross Association, who’ve put together a six-hour race for ATVs and motorcycles on George Lake.

This won’t be a sissy, crawl-through the corners event. The race starts at 10:30 a.m. and sends riders down 10 kms of track, with a mix of turns and straights, where they say riders are hitting 140 kph. They’re hoping for at least 50 racers to show up, as it’s part of the Alberta Endurance Ice Racing Association (AEIRA) schedule.

Admission is $5, and coffee and snacks will be available at the event. Proceeds will go to the Fairview Motocross Association – they’re using the money to build a new track.
