Nicky Hayden is headed back to the hospital for more surgery.

The Ducati Corse MotoGP racer broke his ribs and shoulder a few weeks ago when he crashed his Honda XR100 while training at an indoor facility. At the time, it was questionable whether or not he’d be ready for the Sepang MotoGP tests, and as it turns out, he wasn’t –  he only lasted for 16 laps on his new Ducati on Day Two.

According to doctors, that’s because he’s still suffering from damaged cartilage and back muscles. That means he’s headed back for more surgery, with no word yet on when he’ll be ready to resume testing on the new Ducati GP12.

Hayden has been plagued by injuries since last fall, when a broken wrist ruled him our of testing at Valencia.
