Highland goes electric

US Highland is jumping into the electric motorcycle market.

Highland, best known for building street trackers and single-cylinder trailbikes, is making the announcement after talks with a U.S.-based OEM manufacturer of electric motors.

They’ve formed a subsidiary to work on the battery bike project, called US Highland Electric, Inc.

Highland’s company execs are all saying this is a bold move into the future, but for that to be the case, we’d like to see another move; instead of just talking to an electric motor manufacturer, we’d like to see Highland talk to a battery manufacturer.

Battery life and charge times are the main factors holding back electric motorcycles right now; fix those two issues, and any manufacturer would have a hot bike.
