World Superbike ace Max Biaggi will miss the upcoming Magny-Cours round, thanks to his broken foot.

Biaggi, who won the championship last year, still had an outside chance of working his way up and taking this season’s crown, but a freak accident at Nurburgring has put his season off-track.

Now Biaggi can’t ride because he can’t shift, and frontrunner Carlos Checa is only three points away from clinching the title. Biaggi wasn’t able to run at the Italian superbike round at Imola, and with the news that he’ll miss Magny-Cours ,Aprilia’s hopes are now pinned on Leon Camier, who managed a third-place finish at Imola. He’s certainly not going to catch Checa, though.

Like all of us, Biaggi isn’t getting any younger; there have been rumors that the 40-year-old may be planning to hang up his leathers at the end of the season. A season-trashing injury like this, especially at this point in his career, may be enough to help him make the decision. But we’ll see; Biaggi was still last year’s champ, and in contention  much of the time this year, so don’t rule out his return just yet.
