On the road to Canada

Harley-Davidson’s XR1200 Sportster will be released in Canada.

Deeley Harley-Davidson says the XR will be available in Vivid Black, Mirage Orange Pearl, and Pewter Denim colours at prices from $13,079.00 for Vivid Black to $13,419.00 for the coloured models.

The XR1200 is the most sports-oriented Sportster ever made, with the qualified exception of the flat-track racing XR-750 that influences its design.

It’s powered by a 1200 cc Evolution V-Twin with 10:1 compression, high performance cams, and downdraft fuel injection, which produces 90 hp (68 lb-ft torque) at the crankshaft. An upswept 2-1-2 exhaust system with dual mufflers improves air flow, and 43 mm USD Showa forks suggest some improved handling attributes.

Seat height is low at 740 mm (29.2 in) and rear set footpegs allow a lean angle of 39 degrees. A hands-free smart security system is optional.

CMG will have a full report from the North American launch next week.

Harley-Davidson/Buell Canada have also just announced new pricing for 2009 models due to the sinking Canadian dollar, with an average increase of about 10% over previously published pricing. Even so, if we take the XR as an example, it retails at just over $11,000.00 in the U.S meaning Canada is actually getting it cheaper (based on an 80 cent dollar)!

Hmmhhh, is it time for a US Vs Canada pricing update feature ????

  1. I think this bike has to be compared to other Sportsters, and from that point of view I think it is a big improvement.
The viseral delights of the Harley engine offers a unique experience which for some of us is quite rewarding. :grin

  2. Britain’s BIKE magazine pretty much panned it. Maybe if it had the V-Rod motor and some cornering clearance, pegs set for a realistically sporty riding position, comfortable seating and riding position, etc., etc……. sigh.
