GUZZI SPORT GETS 4V
The big German Intermot show produced yet another updated model from Moto Guzzi, this one called the 1200 Sport 4V.
The Quattrovalvole (it’s actually an eight-valve, but for some reason Guzzi likes to number the valves in each cylinder) engine used in recent models is bumped to a claimed 105 bhp at 7,500 rpm, with max torque of 110 Nm (a luvly grunty 81 ft-lb) at 6,500 rpm.
Chassis of steel tubes, suspension by Marzocchi, brakes by Brembo including optional ABS, and styling reminiscent of the 1970s (the little fairing in particular, mildly rear-set pegs, etc.), make what should be quite a fun sporting ride.
Heated grips, panniers, top box and GPS are all options, and Guzzi says that particular attention was paid to passenger accommodations, despite the sporting look.
SHIVER GOES GT
From another corner of Italy, updated Aprilias have been announced. The standard Shiver now has a GT variant with a half-fairing, intended for sport-touring.
The Shiver’s 95 hp, 750 cc motor remains unchanged, and it comes with the standard’s ride-by-wire throttle and adjustable engine mapping for sport, touring, and rain riding. The standard Shiver’s 43 mm USD forks, radial-mounted brake discs, and optional ABS are also included in the GT version.
MANA FOLLOWS SHIVER
A half-faired Mana GT was also shown at Intermot, powered by an 839 cc V-twin that develops 76 hp and operates the rear wheel through an electronically-controlled transmission that allows the rider to choose between automatic and sequential seven-gear modes.
CANADA SI?
Canadian Scooter Corp, importers of the Guzzi and Aprilia lines to Canada, has no plans yet to bring any of these bikes in, but say that may change when they announce their new line-up in December. However, over the last few years CSC has tended to wait a model year before bringing in the latest Guzzis and Aprilias, which means they could still be a year away.
Not surprising that they’re not coming. From the Aprilia/Moto Guzzi dealers websites it doesn’t appear that they are selling very well anyway.
