An American cop who was blinded by a shotgun blast will ride a motorcycle again, though his wife will do the steering.

Sgt. Jon Brough was left nearly dead after a murder suspect opened up on him in November 2006 in Belleville, Missouri. The 22-year policeman is a member of the Blue Knights, a motorcycle club for police, and that group has asked Lehman Trikes to build Brough a kit bike.

In November, according to press reports, Jay Leno will present Brough with his trike, which will be based on a 2008 Honda Gold Wing.

The Blue Knights are raising money to buy the Gold Wing, and Lehman Trikes of Spearfish, South Dakota, will provide the trike kit through its “Good Turn Trike” program, which the company started last year to “allow someone with a love for motorcycles to keep riding.”

Brough’s wife, Wendy, quit her job as a nurse to care for her injured husband, and is now faced with the prospect of learning to ride a motorcycle.
