Moto GP star for safety

sm_vermeulen-safety.jpg Moto GP star Chris Vermeulen has set off a safety campaign for Australia’s growing number of motorcyclists. Vermeulen says he’s frustrated at the number of casualties racked up on Australia’s roads.

"Don’t treat the road like a race track," he says, "is one of the main messages of the campaign."

Vermeulen, who is familiar with speeds of 300 km/h, says accidents are often caused when motorcyclists outride their abilities. He suggests slowing down for curves and intersections.

"When it comes to the road there’s one cold hard fact that even I can’t ignore — treat the road like a racetrack and you could become a statistic," he says on his myspace page.
