Vicki Schouten, one of the regular competitors in the Women’s Cup series, plans to try some endurance racing south of the border this year. She’ll be the second girl from the series to look for lots of track time with WERA, as Nadine Lajoie has also hooked up with an endurance team.

Schouten’s effort will be in conjunction with Greg White, the TV motorcycle host of SPEED channel who also provides colour commentary for the AMA Superbike broadcasts. White did some endurance events in 2007, and when he and Schouten were talking in the off-season (they’d met at a Kawasaki media event) endurance racing came up, and Schouten got interested and busy.

"I thought, why not see if we can get Kahuna Kawasaki and Canadian Kawasaki Motors on board and pull an endurance team together … [they were both] really supportive."

They’ll ride Schouten’s 2007 Kawasaki ZX-6Rs, which they’ll try to set up for both riders, with help from Brad Clarke and John Sharrard of Accelerated Technology.

The team will likely only manage two or three races since Schouten has a full schedule in Canada with the RACE regionals, Parts Canada nationals, and Womens’ Cup. "We’ll just have to see how it goes," she says. "More than anything, I think we just want to get some training time and have a little bit of fun while we’re at it. You never know … I may just catch the endurance racing bug."
